The history of the Allicance/Coalition War
At present, humans reside in the Sirius sector, but the region itself was born out of strife. It has taken a long journey to the vague semblance of peace the region currently enjoys. The history of the Sirius sector begins approximately 800 years in the past, originating from humanity's home, Earth, in the Sol system. Few historical records remain which explain what exactly happened, but conventional history outlines the development of the fledgling sector. Before the great exodus from Sol, there had been a great war which had plagued the system for over one hundred years. Little is now known about how, why or even when the war started. However, it is known that there were two opposing forces: the Coalition (led by Russia, China and the Arab States) and the Alliance (led by the United States, Western Europe and Japan).
Millions died in a vast but inconclusive conflict until the Coalition gained the upper hand at last. Exodus When the Coalition arrived at one of Jupiter's moons with hostile intent, they were confronted with an impressive sight. The Alliance, in desperation, had constructed 5 sleeper ships in secret to carry many colonists to a distant sector where it was hoped that they would escape the prejudice which had divided the human race for so long. Each ship was christened after its patron nation: the Bretonia (Great Britain), the Rheinland (Germany), the Hispania (Spain), the Kusari (Japan) and the Liberty (the United States). As the Coalition attacked, the sleeper ships and their escorts managed to break through the blockade and escape through hyperspace to the Sirius sector. Arrival Upon arrival, each sleeper ship went their seperate ways. The Hispania was sabotaged on its way to Sirius and was thought to be lost. The Bretonia was hit when she broke the Coalition blockade and arrived 20 years later.
The colonists settled down on different planets in different systems and, without the influence of war, prospered and lived in relative peace with each other. Finally, they acheived interstellar flight and made contact. Although the history of Sirius has been plagued by hostilities and hardships, nothing on the scale of the great war has yet to become reality. Rumours and Further Speculation There has been some speculation about what happened after the sleeper ships left, and that the Nomads showed up and destroyed the Sol system.

From Sirius Sector Neural Net Database:
This is a brief list of both the pilotable and non-pilotable ships that can be found in the Freelancer universe.
Several player-made modifications, collectively known as mods, have been created to modify non-pilotable ships as such they are flyable.

Light fighters
A light fighter is classified by the fact that it usually holds 4 weapon mounts along with (usually) a mount for a cruise disruptor. A light fighter is also known for the fact that it comes with higher agility and lower price when compared with a heavy fighter of its class. This also means that less cargo space is provided. Being a fighter with enhanced agility, a light fighter is highly potent as an interceptor, as well obtaining and maintaining dogfighting superiority. Light fighters are also known to be used by house police. On the other hand, this kind of fighter is easily seen in almost every house system.

- Z-2010 Bloodhound(Pirate)
- 72-ARKM-G3 Banshee (Rheinland)

Very Heavy Fighters
Very Heavy Fighters are placed apart from heavy fighters simply because they can mount higher-power weapons and a stronger armament. The Anubis is not a true VHF in a sense, as it lacks the superior firepower of the other VHF's. There is much debate over the way these ships affect the game. Many feel they unbalance it, effectivly pushing Heavy Fighters out of the way and off the market.
- M10 Class Titan (Corsair)
- Series Z Sabre (Borderworld)
- CTE-6000 Eagle (Civilian)
- AP-8050 Hammerhead (Bounty Hunter)
- 07A Anubis (Order)

Freighters
Freighters are classed as such due to their size, cargo capicity as well as their abnormal number of turret mounts. Freighters are the least manuverable class of ships in the game, but they carry the most cargo. The highest class freighter is the Rheinland Humpback, with 2 weapon mounts and 6 turrets, with the capacity to mount Class 7 weaponary. The smallest hold is the Rhino with only 80 cargo units, with the largest being the Borderworlds Dromedary at 275.
- 203-ARKM-B5 Humpback (Rheinland)

Non-pilotable Ships
(You can't fly these ships but many mods make them flyable.)
The majority of these ships are house Capital ships and are all seen in game at some stage. The Prison Ship is seen only once in the first mission and the Starblazer was never fully featured. It can however be seen flying past in cityscape scenes.
